Make an American Boy! for less

At $105 dollars a pop I was unwilling to do this experiment with a real American Girl, so I found that a Springfield Doll from Michael's with a 40% off coupon would do just as well... well, with a few adjustments...
...the doll was priced at $21.99 but like I mentioned earlier, I had a 40% off coupon which made it only $13.20 plus tax... CAN'T BEAT THAT! So, I started by cutting all its hair off, and I trimmed the eyelashes down...
... then I used nail polish remover to take off the lipstick, but in retrospect I should have just painted over them in the first place because I turned his lips yellow :o/  ... and I had to use acrylic craft paint  to repaint his lips in a shade a little darker than his skin tone... I also painted his eyebrows a little thicker...
... dressed him up in a soccer uniform from Michael's that cost $7.99 for the outfit and $7.99 for the shoes...
and I was done... easy as apple pie :o)

  3. That looks really cool! I've avoided the Springfield dolls because their faces look weird. It looks much cuter as a boy.

  9. Hey Froggy!

As you can see from my avatar, I have this same doll. I named her Julie and turned her into my version of the Julie Albright AG doll. While I think it's great your girl AG will have a brother, seeing you cut the hair off and make her a boy made me a little sad. *sniff* But Springfield Collection dolls are fun to play w/, no matter what the gender. 12. Hi there!

My name is Isabel, and I have had an american girl for over five years now, but I didn't start crafting until I found your channel about a year ago! You are a true inspiration, and I have made countless crafts in this past year. I am subscribed, and I constantly check for new videos! I have My american girl #28, who I named Bella. I got her when I was seven and at first, I really didn't know what to do with her! Strangely, I have started loving AG more as I get older! I also got McKenna in February, and I renamed her McKenna Primrose(HUNGER GAMES!). I love the concept of boy dolls, and I love the way you teach kids and adults worldwide how to make them on a budget! I always thought it would be a waste of money to buy a doll and potentially wreck them, just to make a boy doll, but now, I can atempt to create a boy doll with no worries, I wouldn't have put $105 down the drain! I would be so ecstatic if you replied to this comments, sooooooo....if it isn't a bother, could you? I don't really know if you are busy or not, so, if you have time...

    xx Isabel

  17. Amazing! Thanks for sharing your how-to info. I happen to own the only AG boy doll that they made way back when...
only problem is there's no patterns for this male doll.
I have to alter some of the girl patterns to fit, he's short (apprx 15" tall). Now I can make a boy doll for my gd's "girls" that will go better with them. Thanks again for sharing.

  19. Love your transformation! We tried this on a second hand "Our Generation" doll from target. We used the "magic eraser" on the lip and cheek color to fade them to the right shade. We didn't think of adding thicker eyebrows though! I think that is what he needs! Does the craft acrylic paint last or does it scratch off easily? Great job!
